wilcza for/rest is an intimate concept of two guesthouses designed by DE.MATERIA Architects in the green landscape of the Wolf Clearing (Wilcza Poręba) district of Karpacz, in the Karkonosze Mountains in Poland.

The buildings are set on a narrow plot of land. Each has been designed to provide maximum privacy for the guests, and at the same time let them enjoy the amazing panoramic views of the Jelenia Góra Valley.

Local materials and architecture were the key aspects of the design process. The concept of wilcza For/rest is inspired by the historic architecture of wooden mountain shelters and houses, characteristic for the local architecture from the turn of the 20th century. It was influenced by formal reasons as well as the desire to fit in the regional traditions, and at the same time to respect the unique local heritage. Solid stone plinth, exposed half-timbered construction, gable ends covered with wooden boards, roofs covered with wooden shingles – all these elements are shaped in a modern form.

The concrete structure of the two lower floors is covered with split gneiss. Hand-formed piece by piece, the stones were carefully composed according to the character defined in the project. A solid stone plinth creates a massive base for a much lighter wooden frame on upper floors. Large format glazing exposes internal wooden structures resembling half-timbered type construction with its composition. The spectacular glazing of gable walls is covered with wooden vertical fins, a clear reference to the typical regional wooden gables. As a result of their natural beauty, the high-quality materials will grow old gracefully with time, and gradually, blend in with the surroundings of Karkonosze landscapes.

Privacy and silence. wilcza For/rest are self-service apartments, and everything has been designed to make the guests feel at ease and at home. To avoid the hustle and bustle of the reception area or restaurant – once they've booked their stay, the guests receive the entrance code. From this moment on, the apartment will become their new vacation home.

The shape of the garden allows to soak in the splendid views, while sitting by the fire or sunbathing. You have a chance to relax and admire the distant view of the Karpacz as far as the horizon.
