Designed by Hiroshi Nakamura, the small house has a gentle, playful bold and sculptural facade.

The House SH is a project showing Nakamura's brilliant idea of making a small living space bigger by re-designing the wall, and transforming it into something functional and aesthetically pleasing aside from it being just a part of the major structural element. What he did was to design the wall in such a way that it protrudes outward the building, creating a shape that looks like a pouch when you look outside, and creating a hollow shape inside thus making the wall functional and gives the structure a character.

The hollow embraces; softy and gently, like a kangaroo’s pouch. It embraces the light from the top and glows in the early morning, in the midst of the day. The reflected light enters each room with varied expressions giving characters to each space. Sitting in it and lying in it, the dwellers hopefully form an affectionate relationship with the hollow, like exchanging bodily conversations. This is the ‘intimacy’ I hope to create between architecture and people.” — Hiroshi Nakamura
